Jen Akerman, a.k.a. dark-pop performer Final Child has unveiled a compelling black & white video for swaggering new single “Ruthless Liar” premiered via Ones to Watch. Between cuts of war footage and flying saucers headed towards Earth, Akerman is a character of rebellion as she sings of being “headed out for the kills.” Final Child recently announced her debut EP Till Death Do Us Part (part I) due out September 13, a collection of seven slick, moody tracks that evoke the tense, passionate pop of fellow Scandinavian singers Tove Lo and Lykke Li. Following kaleidoscopic lead single “Afterlife” via Billboard, Final Child continues to catch the attention of eyes and ears everywhere. Fans will be able to celebrate her debut and experience Final Child’s captivating live show on September 12 at Sayers Club in Los Angeles.
Akerman says, “A person can come far by telling stories based on lies. It’s almost like they become blind by their own tales, creating a new world for themselves where nobody finds out the truth. That’s where the inspiration behind the video came from. Somebody’s view on their own lies, trying to keep em’ under control.“
Upon moving from Sweden to Los Angeles at age 18, the multitalented Akerman began playing in several bands and booked modeling campaigns with The Gap, American Apparel, Forever 21, and more. She spent time with family, like older half-sister, actress Malin Akerman and eventually met her now-fiance, actor Tom Payne. All the while, she absorbed information: how to play the guitar, how to sing, how to produce, how to be a self-possessed, manager-free, independent businessperson. This journey led to the inception of Final Child – a personal, one woman show representing sounds of the past, present and future with another dimension you’ve yet to explore.
