For decades, the world of professional wrestling has deliberately blurred the line between fantasy and reality. From larger-than-life characters to moments of glory to backstage controversies, mysterious deaths and unsolved homicides, it’s truly an art form that has it all. Viceland’s ‘Dark Side of The Ring’ (premiering Wednesday, April 10), directed by Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun), is a no-holds-barred docuseries that shines a light on some of the most shocking moments from the golden age of professional wrestling.
In a six-episode run, ‘Dark Side of The Ring’ examines the tragic love story of “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth, the dark history of “Von Erich Curse,” and legendary “The Montreal Screwjob” that cost Bret Hart his title. The show will also explore much darker moments, such as the shocking locker room fight that led to the death of Bruiser Brody, the mistaken homicide and later-ruled drug overdose of “Gorgeous” Gino Hernandez, and the sexual misconduct and industry manipulation allegations against female star The Fabulous Moolah.
Featuring raw archival footage and gorgeously shot reenactments, ‘Dark Side of The Ring’ also serves up fresh interviews with legendary industry legends like Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Scott Hall, Jim Cornette, Bruce Pritchard, Mick Foley, Tony Atlas, Eric Bischoff, and Dutch Mantell (who also serves as narrator).
