Multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning artist EVERLAST today (9/7) has released EVERLAST PRESENTS WHITEY FORD’S HOUSE OF PAIN, his first new studio album of original material in seven years. Click here to stream/purchase the album.
WHITEY FORD’S HOUSE OF PAIN marks his seventh solo studio effort overall and first studio album of all-new material since 2011’s Songs of the Ungrateful Living (2013’s The Life Acoustic was re-recorded solo guitar versions of previously released songs). The album is a look into his own journey of self discovery during a hiatus from music and a defiant refusal to be boxed in by a single genre or style. From the soulful “One of Us,” to the hard-edged, shot-taking rhymes on “The Culling” and the Alchemist-produced “Dream State,” Whitey Ford’s House of Pain is the work of an artist who has fully realized his strengths. “I just used everything in the tool box,” EVERLAST says humbly about WHITEY FORD’S HOUSE OF PAIN, adding that his family’s ordeal managing his daughter’s illness has given him “a whole different license to learn how to live.”
Last week (8/30), Rolling Stone premiered “It Ain’t Easy” from the 12-song album which Christopher Weingarten called a “…chiming, heartbroken folk ballad.” Co-written with notable Nashville powerhouse songwriters Luke Laird and Barry Dean, the song was inspired by a difficult time during EVERLAST’s life as he took a hiatus from music to care for his daughter. You can watch EVERLAST performing an acoustic rendition of the song during a recent Paste Magazine session here.
Earlier this week, EVERLAST kicked off a global tour in Europe in support of WHITEY FORD’S HOUSE OF PAIN. The tour returns to North America on October 5th with a special show at Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas, NV; – see the full list of dates below and make sure to grab your tickets here.
PRAISE FOR EVERLAST AND WHITEY FORD’S HOUSE OF PAIN:
“What we know for sure is that Everlast is still with us, busting his ass. He’s putting out new music again, and that’s good news for everyone. And as ever, he’s doing it on his own terms.”
– Brett Callwood, LA WEEKLY, (9/5/18)
“Judging by his musical catalog, he’d rather go deep on the issues, whether it’s ripping into societal hypocrisy and inequality on his 1998 pop-radio staple ‘What It’s Like’ or, like on his gravely new song ‘Don’t Complain,’ skewering folks for cultivating a culture of insincerity on Instagram.”
– Rachel Brodsky,
STEREOGUM ,
,(8/30/18)
“Everlast clearly believes an album’s title should let the listener know what its songs sound like… For his latest set, out Friday, Sept. 7, he chose the title Whitey Ford’s House of Pain, indicating two pivotal periods in his career – the original hit Whitey Ford album, and his ’90s hip-hop group, House of Pain, which created the classic rallying cry ‘Jump Around’… a collection that toggles between soulful singing and stark rapping.”
– Jim Farber, NEWSDAY, (8/30/18)
