MTV2, MTV’s sibling network targeting young male viewers, is revitalizing the iconic game show “Hollywood Squares” with an original style and personality tailor-made for the MTV2 audience. Premiering Tuesday, May 22nd at 11pm ET/PT on MTV2, “Hip Hop Squares” stays true to the tic-tac-toe format of the original game show, while infusing it with some of the biggest and most charismatic personalities in Hip Hop culture today, which transcends genre and crosses into the mainstream with its influence on everything from music to entertainment, fashion to comedy, and more.
The series will feature musical moments and unpredictable interactions between energetic, hilarious and well-known personalities including: actor, comedian and television host Nick Cannon; pro-skateboarder and Jackass crew member Bam Margera; actress, dancer and singer-songwriter Kat Graham; record producer, artist and radio personality DJ Khaled; rappers Fat Joe, Biz Markie, Ghostface Killah, Mac Miller and MGK; Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowl linebacker LaMarr Woodley and more to be announced. The show will be hosted by Peter Rosenberg, known for his quirky and unique spin on Hip Hop culture and New York life as radio DJ on New York City’s #1 Hip Hop Station, Hot 97.
“Hip Hop Squares is a great representation of MTV2’s new brand filter to deliver smart, funny and relevant content that speaks directly to male Millennials’ – or ‘Malennials’ as we call them,” said Paul Ricci, Head of Programming for MTV2. “The show will refresh an iconic format and create a fun, dynamic series that’s unpredictable, heavy on personality and much more ‘party’ than ‘game show’.”
MTV2 is home to Malennials, featuring music, comedic and action-oriented original programming such as Guy Code, The DUB Magazine Project, 120 Minutes, Nitro Circus Live, Bellator Fighting Championships and the dominant hip-hop franchise, Sucker Free.
“Hip Hop Squares” is under license from CBS Television Distribution.
