Let the countdown begin! Los Angeles modern rockers Attaloss are touring the U.S. to promote their self-titled debut album, due April 10 via Rock Ridge Music/Warner Music Group/ADA.
Now folks, I could fill those previous sentences with all the fancy adjectives my little mind can muster but you’d still be left thinking what I was thinking when I first heard this news. In this day and age, where music is easily accessible with new bands, groups and singers popping up every day, what makes Attaloss special? How do they stand out from the crowd?
Well, sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of hardship, perseverance and rock ‘n’ roll! Danny Aguiluz, Chris Johansen, Lorenzo Perea and Dakota Clark left their hometowns behind and headed to big, bad Los Angeles to do as many have done before — chase their rock ‘n’ roll dreams! It wasn’t long after joining forces that their dreams hit a major roadblock. Their rehearsal studio was broken into and all of their music gear was snatched!
Now, for many bands, this setback would be the nail in the coffin, burying their dreams of stardom. So long, farewell … but not for these boys! Not only did they use the theft to pick a band name — Attaloss is the gut feeling they had after hearing the news — guitarist Johansen helped the police track down the thief and retrieve most of their gear.
Attaloss continued onward and returned to the studio in 2011 to record their first five songs on the album before going on tour with big name talent, including Neon Trees, Smashing Pumpkins, and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Rock on!
However, their sound on tour wasn’t the same as in studio so they added Matt Geronimo on guitar and vocals. Just like with the theft, another roadblock was overcome, and the five-man team returned to the studio to record five more songs for the album … with a twist. These five additional ditties are acoustic interpretations of the first five previously recorded. The mixture of styles on one CD is like a fascinating modern rock science experiment gone terribly awesome! I found myself switching back and forth from each rendering, listening for the changes.
But wait, there’s more! Not only does Attaloss have an inspirational back-story and a unique debut CD, they also have a kickass modern rock sound reminiscent of AFI and Muse to offer the world come April 10. They are also sharing an optimistic message, especially with the hit single “Open Door.”
“I don’t even know what you’ve become, I didn’t recognize you in the room; You say you wanted more, but today’s an open door.”
