Review: Black Veil Brides Power Up With ‘Set The World On Fire’

If you like your rock n’ roll with a little more personality and style, look no further than Los Angeles’ newest export, the Black Veil Brides. This talented group has just made it’s major label debut with, Set The World On Fire. Serving as the band’s sophomore album, Set The World On Fire is the follow-up to their 2010 album, We Stitch These Wounds, which made an impact when it landed at #36 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on the Billboard Independent chart. The excitement and buzz about the band continues to grow and they were recently awarded the “Best New Band” title at Revolver’s Golden Gods Awards and rolled out a powerful new video for “Fallen Angels,” the first single from ‘Set The World On Fire’. With a legion of dedicated fans behind them, positive reaction for the rock and metal communities and an outstanding presence and work ethic, it won’t be long before these guys are blasting from speakers nationwide!

The initial (and expected) criticism from the uninitiated around our office was that the band’s look is a blend of KISS meets Motley Crue. A valid point but it must quickly pointed out that all the aforementioned bands had music that was able to stand on it’s own, beyond the glammed out look. We have all heard the saying it isn’t about what the car looks like, it is what is under the hood that counts! This is the perfect analogy for the blossoming Black Veil Brides. They are a band that have the potential to rock relentlessly and as an added bonus, they come in a pretty package. You can’t begrudge them that. With that out of the way, let us move onto the music… ‘Set The World On Fire’ is a bit of a departure from the band’s last record, which I was also a fan of. With the new record, BVB move forward with leaps and bounds. ‘Set The World On Fire’ is a more melodic and sonically precise album. The more gravely vocals and roaring screams from ‘We Stitch These Wounds,’ have been toned down to focus on a smoother side of vocalist Andy Biersack’s pipes. After only on listen, clearly Black Veiled Brides are much more polished on this album and their new found confidence shines though.

This time around, it seems that the band have their sights set on stadium success and for good reason as songs like “Fallen Angels” and “Die For You” will surely one day serve as arena anthems.An even more robust song such as “God Bless You” boasts riffs tastier than anything else you will currently encounter on rock radio and will hopefully aid the band in kicking down the doors of Middle America. Other standout tracks include “New Religion”, “Set The World On Fire”, “Rebel Love Song” and “The Legacy”. Black Veil Brides are a young band a with a long road ahead of them in an ever changing music industry, however the seem to have the talent, foresight and power to adapt which should allow them dazzle crowds worldwide for years to come.
